When many people think of Asia, they think of the more known Asian countries like China, Japan, and South Korea. However, unbeknownst to many, there lies another land of beauty in Asia called Vietnam. Being of Vietnamese linage myself, I want to help others know of how much potential lies in this country that many do not know of.

Some of the most fascinating landmarks in Vietnam include Viet Cong tunnels, the Heavenly Pagoda, and the Descending Dragon Bay. The tunnels are a reminder of Vietnam’s guerrilla forces in the Vietnam war and their tactics, providing a great location for fans of history. The Heavenly Pagoda and the Descending Dragon Bay both have spectacular views of the ocean, providing tourists of the calm life by the ocean that the Vietnamese live.

Once colonized by the French, Vietnam has an amazing fusion of European and Asian culture running through its veins. The Vietnamese utilized the concept of operas and transformed them into their own, often using classical instruments and topics dealing with the family to tell great tales.  The music found in Vietnam is very cultural and treads back to its past to create a nice blend of percussion and blowing instruments.

Additionally, many cannot help but marvel at the delicacies that can be found in Vietnam. The dish that Vietnam is best known for is the noodle soup “pho” (fuh) that has found its way to America through cultural diffusion. The Vietnamese specialize in rice dishes, meat buns, spring rolls, and much more. However, the best dishes from Vietnam have to be the desserts as the pastries such as their sweet cakes that are amazingly delicious.

The most important festival for the Vietnamese has to be “Tet”, or more commonly known as Vietnamese New Year. This holiday is often found in the early months of the new year and represents a renewal for the Vietnamese people. Red envelopes are given to the younger kids by adults as a gift of future success, a custom also found in Chinese New Year as well.

To recap this all in one statement, I say to the readers, ” Take a chance and travel to Vietnam.” There is so much undiscovered beauty in the country and the culture that many do not know of, and hopefully someday, more people will travel there and get to see for themselves how much culture lies in the country of Vietnam
