It happens to the best of us. The world just keeps throwing so much at us that we wonder, how can we handle it all? Stress is something everyone gets but it’s how they deal with it  which determines if they succeed or fail at school.  Throughout this year, I was most stress during the fall. This was a combination of football, my grades, college applications, and personal statements. It’s also stressful to have to write good articles for the newspaper in a short amount of time.  To get a perspective of the amount of stress other people deal with, I went around school asking students.

Bradley Cardello describes stress as something that “does not need to be worried about”.”People  overreact because of stress which is the reason why they do not succeed.” When I asked him what stresses him out, he told that “schoolwork” (especially projects), and college are the most stressful. “Since I’m a perfectionist, I’m forced to finish all my schoolwork.” said Cardello. Like Bradley, Tony Gutierrez stated that schoolwork and tests were also very stressful but he also stated,”I usually take a nap or talk to a good friend to keep my mind off the work.” Finally, Kevin Ishikawa said that “I usually forget about the work until late at night. I try to enjoy my day before I deal with the stress later.”

Aside from schoolwork, extracurricular activities can also be stressful. For example, many students, like Catherine Ho, are going to be in the upcoming play, Hairspray. Catherine stated that “It’s hard to balance school with extracurricular activities like Hairspray and Badminton. I usually just plan out a schedule in my head and do my best to finish each thing on time.” Like myself, my brother Robert Collins also played football. He told me that “I am most stressed right before a game is about to start. I have to remember a lot of stuff and I also push myself to play well. To calm myself down, I usually listen to music.”

For me, I feel that stress is something that you need in life. Of course you don’t want to overload, but you need something to push yourself. Most of the time, you are stressed about something because you care about it.  So do everything you can to deal with stress, like sleeping, or talking with a friend, or making a schedule and you will be successful.
